Letter Writing Project for People in ICE Detention
Opening Heart’s Engaged Mindfulness Circle and Wake Up DC are beginning a collaboration to support immigrants detained by ICE through Cartas de Paz Colorado (Letters of Peace), a program organized by Casa de Paz Colorado (House of Peace). This well-established initiative connects compassionate individuals across the United States with people in ICE detention by inviting them to become long-term pen pals. No Spanish is required to participate.
We are also be honored to invite the Right Action Community to participate in this meaningful project. Their deep commitment to true justice aligns beautifully with this initiative.
We will hold two hybrid gatherings at Opening Heart Mindfulness Community, 3812 Northampton Street NW, Washington, DC 20015 on the first Saturdays of April and May, from 4:00–5:30 PM:
April 4 – Training & Registration Session
Introduction to the project and how to participate. The gathering will begin with a guided meditation in the Plum Village tradition.
May 2 – Community Letter Writing Session
Participants will write their first letters together in community, beginning with a guided meditation.
Please bring your laptop or your phone to register so you may be assigned a person to write to.
If you will not be able to attend, but would still like to participate in this project, or if you have any questions, please email Magda.
Hot beverages and light refreshments will be available for both events.
We hope you can join us for this compassionate and meaningful project.
A lotus for you,
OHMC’s Engaged Mindfulness Circle and Wake Up DC
