May 26, 2018 -- The Path of Happiness: A Day of Mindfulness Led by Plum Village Monastics

Sat, May 26, 9:00 am– 4:00 pm

A community of Plum Village monastics and lay friends are hiking from Blue Cliff Monastery in New York to Washington, DC, along the Shawangunk Ridge Trail, the Appalachian Trail, and the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. Their aspiration is to create a mobile monastery and practice center, while connecting deeply to the healing energy of nature through mindful steps. To learn more about the Appalachian Trail journey, visit www.pathofhappiness.org.

The Day of Practice will be at Seeker's Church, 276 Carroll St NW, Washington, DC. It is located a block away from the Takoma Metro Station where parking will be available.

The schedule for the Day of Mindfulness is:

  • 9:00 am - registration and settling in
  • 9:30 - dharma talk
  • 11:00 - mindful walk
  • 12:30 - mindful lunch
  • 2:00 - deep relaxation and dharma sharing
  • 4:00- closing

Please bring a vegetarian bag lunch and a friend. Also, if you are comfortable sitting on the floor, please bring a cushion and a mat or blanket with you. (There will also be many chairs for those who prefer them.)

There is no required fee, though it is important that you register at EventBrite so we can hold a place for you:

Dana (donations) will be received to support the community's aspiration to offer wilderness hiking mindfulness retreats for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The intention is to create a "rite of passage" for young people through which they can learn to responsibly care for themselves, physically and emotionally, and, also, to responsibly care for the our earth.

If you would like to offer Dana to the hiking monastics, please go to the home page of The Path of Happiness website.

The May 26th Day of Practice is sponsored by the Washington, DC, area mindfulness communities practicing in the Plum Village tradition: The Boat of Compassion Sangha (Vietnamese language)The Mindfulness Practice Center of FairfaxThe Opening Heart Mindfulness CommunityThe Still Water Mindfulness Practice Center, and The Washington Mindfulness Community.
